Sedation

Indications: A combative patient

Midazolam: If the patient is ≥ 18 years of age and normotensive and shows no reversible signs for their combativeness and does not have a sensitivity or allergy to midazolam administer 2.5mg to 5mg IV or IM to a max single dose of 5mg.

After 5 minutes if patient remains combative repeat 2.5mg to 5mg IV or IM to a max single dose of 5mg.

If you are unable to confirm that there are no reversible causes or you are not able to assess patient to obtain a blood pressure in order to confirm that they are normotensive contact BHP for authorization.

 

Procedural Sedation

Indications: Post-intubation or transcutaneous pacing.

Midazolam: If the patient is ≥ 18 years of age, normotensive and has respiratory rate of at least 8 breaths per minute and does not have an allergy or sensitivity to midazolam administer 2.5mg to 5mg IV to a maximum dose of 5mg.

 

After 5 minutes you may administer a 2nd dose of 2.5mg to 5mg IV to a maximum dose of 5mg.
