Cricothyrotomy

Indications: A need for advanced airway management and intubation and supraglottic airway are unsuccessful or contraindicated and you are unable to ventilate patient.

Cricothyrotomy: If the patient is at least 12 years of age with an altered LOA and does not have a suspected fracture of the larynx patch to BHP for authorization to perform a cricothyrotomy.

Clinical Considerations: Confirm tube placement by auscultation and chest rise and ETCO2.

If the patient has a pulse an ETCO2 device must be used for tube placement confirmation. Reconfirm tube placement after every time patient is moved.
